And when Jesus was past, he saw a man blind from his birth.
And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he should be born blind?
- Jesus answered, Neither did he sin, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be manifested in him.
- I must do the works of him who sent me, while it is day; The night comes, when no one can work.
- While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
And when he had said this, he spat in the earth, and made the clay with the spittle, and anointed the eyes of the blind with the mire.
- And he saith unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is the Envoy). So he went and washed, and came and saw.
- And the neighbors, and they which formerly had seen that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
- Some said, It is this. And others: It looks like it. He said: It's me.
And they said to him, "How are your eyes opened?"
- And he answered and said, The man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said unto me, Go into the pool of Siloam, and wash. So I went, and washed, and saw.
- And they said unto him, Where is he? He answered: I do not know.
- And they brought the blinded unto the Pharisees.
And it was the Sabbath when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes.
- And the Pharisees also asked him how he had seen, and he said unto them, He has put mud upon my eyes, I have washed, and I see.
- And some of the Pharisees said, This man is not of God: for he keepeth not the Sabbath. Others said, How can a sinful man do such signs? And there was dissension between them.
- And they said again unto the blind man, Thou sayest of him that opened thine eyes? And he said, Who is a prophet.
- But the Jews did not believe that he had been blind, and that he should see now, when they had not called the fathers of the thing which he now saw.
- And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, whom ye say was born blind? How do you see now?
- And their fathers answered them, and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;
- But as he now seeeth, we know not; or who has opened his eyes, we do not know. You are old, ask him yourself; and he will speak for himself.
- And their fathers spake, because they feared the Jews. For the Jews had already resolved that if anyone confessed that he was the Christ, he should be cast out of the synagogue.
- And this is why his parents said, He is of age, ask him himself.
- And they called the second time the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give glory to God; we know that this man is a sinner.
- And he answered and said, If he be a sinner, I know not; one thing I know, is that, having been blind, now I see.
- And they said to him again, What did he do to thee? How did he open your eyes?
- And he said unto them, I have told you, and ye have not heard; what do you want to hear again? Do you also want to become his disciples?
- And they reviled him, and said, Disciple, be thou; but we are disciples of Moses.
- We know that God spoke to Moses, but we do not know where he is from.
- And the man answered and said unto them, Hereby is the wonder, that ye know not whence he is, and yet open my eyes.
- Now we know that God heareth not sinners; but if anyone is a God-fearing man and does his will, he hears.
- From the beginning of the world it has never been heard that any man should open his eyes to a man blind from birth.
- If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.
- And they answered and said unto him, Thou art born altogether in sins, and teachest us? And they kicked him out.
- And Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and, finding him, said unto him, Believe thou in the Son of God?
- And he answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that he should believe on him?
- And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast seen him, and he that speaketh with thee.
- And he said, I believe, Lord. And worshiped him.
- And Jesus saith unto him, I am come into this world for judgment, that they that see not may see, and that they which see may be blind.
- And the Pharisees that were with him heard it, and said unto him, Are we also blind?
- Jesus saith unto them, If ye were blind, ye would have no sin; but as you now say, We see; so your sin remains.
