The Incredulity of the inhabitants of Nazareth, death of John the Baptist - Mark 6

Jesus in Nazareth. Incredulity of the inhabitants

- And he departed from thence, and came into his country, and his disciples followed him.
- And when the sabbath was come, he began to teach in the synagogue; and many hearing him wondered, saying, Whence these things come to him? and what wisdom is this that was given to him? and how are such wonders done by his hands?
- Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James, and of Joseph, and of Judas, and of Simon? and are not your sisters here with us? And they scandalized him.
- And Jesus said unto them, There is no prophet without honor, but in his own country, among his kindred, and in his house.
And he could do no wonderful work there; only healed a few sick people by laying their hands on them.
And he was astonished at their unbelief. And he went through the neighboring villages, teaching.

Mission of the Twelve Apostles
- And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them two and two, and gave them power over unclean spirits;
- And he charged them that they should take nothing for the way, but only a staff; no bag, no bread, no money in the girdle;
- But let them put on shoes, and let them not put on two coats.
- And he said unto them, In the house whither thou goest in, abide therein, until thou shalt depart thence.
- And as many as shall not receive you, and will not hear you out of thence, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, There shall be more toleration in the day of judgment for Sodom and Gomorrah than for those of that city.
- And when they went forth, they preached that they should repent.
- And they cast out many devils, and anointed many sick with oil, and healed them.

Death of John the Baptist
- And king Herod heard thereof, (for the name of Jesus became known), and said, John the Baptizer rose from the dead, and therefore these wonders work in him.
- And others said, It is Elijah. And others said, He is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.
- And when Herod heard it, he said, This is John, which I commanded to be cut off; He was raised from the dead.
- Forasmuch as Herod had commanded John to be bound, and bound him bound in the prison, because of Herodias the wife of Philip his brother, because he had married her.
- For John said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to possess thy brother's wife.
- And Herodias watched him, and wanted to kill him, but he could not.
- For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man; and kept it securely, and did many things, attending to it, and listened to it in a good way.
- And there came a favorable occasion when Herod on the day of his years gave a supper to the great men, and the captains, and the rulers of Galilee,
- And the daughter of the same Herodias went in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him. And the king said to the girl, Ask me what you will, and I will give it to you.
- And he sware unto him, saying, Whateversoever ye shall ask of me I will give unto thee, even unto the half of my kingdom.
- And she went out and said to her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
- And when he hadtily entered, he asked the king, saying, I would that thou wouldest give me the head of John the Baptist on a platter.
- And the king was very grieved; yet because of the oath and of those who were with him at the table, he would not deny it.
And immediately the king sent the executioner, and commanded that the head of John should be brought there. And he went and slew him in the prison;
- And he brought his head in a dish, and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother.
- And when his disciples heard that, they went and took his body, and laid him in a sepulcher.

The First Multiplication of Breads
- And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all that they had done, and that which they had taught.
- And he saith unto them, Depart ye out into a desert place, and rest a little. For there were many that came and went, and had no time to eat.
- And they went in a boat to a deserted place by themselves.
- And the multitude saw them depart, and many knew him; and they ran there on foot from all the cities, and there they came first, and came to him.
- And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and had compassion on them, because they were as sheep that have no shepherd; and began to teach them many things.
- And when the day was far advanced, his disciples came unto him, and said unto him, The place is desolate, and the day is far in advance.
- Send them away, that they may go into the towns and villages round about, and buy bread for themselves; because they do not have to eat.
- But he answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred loaves of bread to give them to eat?
- And he said unto them, How many loaves have ye? Go and see. And when they had heard it, they said, Five loaves and two fish.
- And he commanded them that they should make them all sit on the green grass on ranches.
And they sat down, divided from a hundred to a hundred, and from fifty to fifty.
- And he took the five loaves and the two fish, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them. And he divided the two fish for all.
- And they all ate and were filled;
And they took up twelve baskets full of bread and fish.
- And they that ate the loaves were about five thousand men.

Jesus walks on the water
- And straightway he commanded his disciples to go up into the ship, and to pass on to the other side to Bethsaida, while he sent the multitude away.
- And when he had sent them away, he went to the mountain to pray.
- And it came to pass in the evening, that the boat was in the midst of the sea, and he was alone on the land.
- And when they saw that they were weary to row, for the wind was against them, about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking upon the sea, and desired to pass on before them.
- But when they saw him walk upon the sea, they saw that he was a ghost, and they cried out loudly.
- For all saw it, and were troubled; but immediately he spoke to them, and said to them, Be of good cheer; it is I, fear not.
- And he went up to the ship, to be with them, and the wind was quiet; and they were greatly astonished and marveled among themselves;
- For they had not understood the miracle of the loaves; before his heart was hardened.

Jesus in Gennesaret
- And when they were already on the other side, they came to the land of Gennesaret, and there they came together.
- And when they were gone out of the boat, they knew him;
- And when they had run all around the earth, they began to bring in the beds, wherever they knew him to be, those who were sick.
- And whithersoever he went in, or into a city, or villages, or into the field,
