- In those days, when there was a great multitude, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said unto them,
- I have compassion on the multitude, because they have been with me three days, and they have nothing to eat.
- And if they allow them to go on fasting to their houses, they shall faint in the way, for some of them have come from afar.
- And his disciples said unto him, Whence can any man satisfy them with bread here in the wilderness?
- And he said unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said unto him, Seven.
And he commanded the multitude to sit on the ground. And he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave them to his disciples, that they might set them before them, and set them before the multitude.
- And they had some little fish; and when he had given thanks, he commanded that they also should set them before him.
- And they did eat, and were filled; and the pieces that remain, they have lifted up seven baskets.
- And they that ate were almost four thousand; and sent them away.
- And he entered into the ship with his disciples, and went into the parts of Dalmanutha.
- And the Pharisees went forth, and began to dispute with him, and asked him for a sign from heaven to tempt him.
- And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and said, Why doth this generation ask for a sign? Verily I say unto you, There shall be no sign unto this generation.
- And he left them, and went into the boat again, and went to the other side.
And they forgot to bring bread, and in the boat they had but one bread.
- And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the leaven of Herod.
- And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.
- And when Jesus knew this, he said unto them, Why reason ye that ye have no bread? have you not considered and understood yet? Do you still have your hearts hardened?
- Having eyes, do you not see? and having ears, hearest thou not? and you do not remember,
- And when I divided the five loaves among the five thousand, how many baskets didst thou lift up? They said to him, Twelve.
- And when I divided the seven among the four thousand, how many baskets didst thou lift up? And they said unto him, Seven.
- And he said unto them, How can ye not understand?
Jesus heals a blind man in Bethsaida
- And he came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to him, and begged him to touch him.
- And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the village; and, spitting in his eyes, and laying his hands on him, asked him if he saw anything.
- And he lifted up his eyes, and said, I see men; for I see them as trees that walk.
- And he put his hands upon his eyes again, and made him look up: and he was restored, and he saw them all plainly.
- And sent him into his house, saying, Neither go into the village, nor tell any man in the village.
- And Jesus and his disciples went forth into the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and he asked his disciples in the way, saying, Who do men say that I am?
- And they answered, John the Baptist; and others: Elijah; but others: One of the prophets.
- And he said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answered and said unto him, Thou art the Christ.
- And he warned them, that they should tell none of them of him.
- And he began to teach them that it should matter that the Son of man should suffer greatly, and that he should be put to death by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and that he should be put to death three days later.
- And he spoke these words openly. And Peter took him aside, and began to rebuke him.
- And he turned and looked upon his disciples, and rebuked Peter, saying, Take thee away from me, Satan; because you do not understand the things of God, but the things of men.
- And he called the multitude with his disciples, and said unto them, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
- For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel will save it.
- For what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
- Or, what shall a man give for the ransom of his soul?
- For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words among the adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of man shall also be ashamed of him when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
