Paul in Macedonia and Greece
- And after the uproar had ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and embraced them, and went forth into Macedonia.
- And when he had walked through those lands, and exhorted them with many words, he came to Greece.
- And it came to pass after three months, that he was bound for the Jews, as he was about to sail to Syria, and that he was determined to return through Macedonia.
- And he went with him unto Asia, and Sopater of Berea, and of Thessalonica, and Aristarchus, and Second, and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy, and of Asia Tychicus and Trophimus.
- And they went forth, and waited for us in Troas.
- And after the days of unleavened bread we sailed from Philippi, and in five days we went to the Troas, where we were seven days.
Paul arrives in the city of Troas
- And on the first day of the week, when the disciples were gathered together to break the bread, Paul, who was about to depart on the morrow, spoke with them; and prolonged the practice until midnight.
And there were many lights in the upper room where they were together.
- And when a certain young man, by the name of the Eutychus, sat at the window, fell from the third floor, from a deep sleep which came to him during Paul's long speech; and was raised up dead.
- And Paul went down, and bent over him, and having embraced him, said, Be not troubled: for his soul is in him.
- And he went up, and broke the bread, and did eat, and spake unto them broadly until the morning; and so he departed.
- And they brought the young man alive, and were not comforted.
But as we were going up to the ship, we sailed to Assos, where we should receive Paul, because he had commanded him, and he went to the land.
- And when he was joined with us in Assos, we received him, and came to Mitylene.
- And when we sailed from thence, we came the next day before Chios, and the next we brought to Samos, and stayed in Trogilius, and came the next day to Miletus.
- For Paul had determined to pass by Ephesus, that he should not spend time in Asia. He was making haste to be, if possible, in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost.
Paul's Address to the Elders of Ephesus
And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus to call the elders of the church.
- And when they came to him, he said unto them, Ye have known from the first day that I entered into Asia, as I have been in all this time in the midst of you,
- Serving the LORD with all humility, and with many tears and temptations, which came to pass through the plots of the Jews;
- As nothing, how helpful is it, I have forsaken you, and teach publicly, and for houses,
- Testifying both to the Jews and to the Greeks, conversion to God, and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
- And now, behold, being bound together by the spirit, I go to Jerusalem, not knowing what shall befall me there,
- But what the Holy Spirit from city to city reveal to me, saying that prisons and tribulations await me.
- But I have no need of my life, neither do I have my life to be precious, so long as I joyfully do my work and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to bear witness to the gospel of the grace of God.
- And now, verily, I know that ye all, for whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.
- Therefore I testify unto you this day that I am clean from the blood of all.
- For I have not forsaken all the counsel of God.
- Behold therefore for yourselves, and for all the flock, whereunto the Holy Ghost hath made you bishops, to feed the church of God, whom he hath redeemed with his own blood.
- For I know this, that after my departing, cruel wolves shall enter among you, which shall not spare the flock;
- And from among you shall arise men that speak perverse things, to draw the disciples after them.
- Watch therefore, remembering that for three years I did not cease night and day to admonish every one of you with tears.
- Now therefore, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace; to him who is able to build you up, and to give an inheritance among all them that are sanctified.
- I have not coveted any silver, nor gold, nor clothing.
Yea, ye yourselves know that these hands have served me for that which was necessary to me, and to them that are with me.
- I have shown you in all things, that in working this way it is necessary to help the sick, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, who said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
- And when he had said this, he knelt down, and prayed with them all.
- And a great mourning arose among them all, and they fell upon Paul's neck, and kissed him,
- They were very grieved, especially at the word which he had spoken, that they would not see his face again. And they accompanied him to the ship.
