Jesus Raises Lazarus and the priests and Pharisees plan to kill Jesus - John 11

Jesus Resurrects Lazarus
But a certain Lazarus was sick from Bethany, the village of Mary, and his sister Martha.
- And Mary was she that had anointed the Lord with ointment, and had wiped her feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.
- And his sisters said unto him, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
- And Jesus having heard this, said, This sickness is not for death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified by her.
- Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
- And when he heard that he was sick, he tarried for two days in the place where he was.
- And he said to his disciples, We are going again to Judea.
- And the disciples said unto him, Rabbi, even now the Jews sought to stone thee, and returnest thou thither?
- Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks by day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world;
But if he walketh in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.
So he spake; and he said to them, "Lazarus our friend sleeps, but I will wake him from sleep.
- Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall be saved.
- But Jesus spake this of his death; but they were careful that he spoke of sleep.
- And Jesus said unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead;
- And I rejoice for your sake, that I should not be there, that ye may believe; but let's go to him.
- And Thomas said, Didymus, unto the disciples, Let us also go, that we might die with him.
- And when Jesus was come, he believed that he had been in the sepulcher for four days.
- (Now Bethany was fifteen distances from Jerusalem.)
- And many of the Jews came to comfort Martha and Mary concerning their brother.
- And when Martha heard that Jesus was come, she went out to meet him. But Mary sat at home.
- And Martha said unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother would not have died.
But now also, I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.
- Jesus saith unto him, Thy brother shall rise again.
- And Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection of the last day.
- Jesus saith unto him, I am the resurrection, and the life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live;
- And whosoever liveth, and believeth in me, shall never die. Do you believe this?
- And she said unto him, Yea, Lord, I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which shall come into the world.
- And when he had said this, he departed, and called secretly unto his sister Mary, saying, The Master is here, and call thee.
- And when she heard this, she arose quickly, and came unto him.
- (For Jesus had not yet come to the village, but was in the place where Martha had met him.)
- And when the Jews which were with her in the house saw her, and comforted her, that Mary hurriedly arose and went out, they followed her, saying, Go to the sepulcher to weep there.
- And when Mary was come to Jesus, she saw him, and fell at his feet, saying, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother would not have died.
Jesus therefore, when he saw her weeping, and weeping also the Jews that were with her, moved much in spirit, and was troubled.
- And he said, Where have ye laid him? And they said unto him, Lord, come, and see.
- Jesus wept.
- And the Jews said, See how he loved him.
- And some of them said, Could not he that opened the eyes of the blind also make him not to die?
- And Jesus moved much more in himself, and came to the sepulcher; and it was a cave, and a stone was laid upon it.
- Jesus said, Take away the stone. Martha, the sister of the deceased, said to him, Lord, it stinks already, for it is four days.
Jesus said to him, "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?"
- And they took away the stone from which the dead lay. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast hearkened unto me.
- I know that thou hearest me always, but I said this because of the multitude that is round about, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
- And when he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, go forth.
- And the dead man went out, having hands and feet bound with bands, and his face wrapped in a handkerchief. Jesus saith unto them, Turn him off, and let him go.
- And many of the Jews that came to Mary, and had seen what Jesus had done, believed on him.
- But some of them went to the Pharisees, and told them what Jesus had done.

Priests and Pharisees plan to kill Jesus
- And the chief priests and the Pharisees formed counsel, and said, What shall we do? for this man does many signs.
- If we leave him thus, all will believe in him, and the Romans will come, and they will take away our place and the nation.
And Caiaphas, one of them that was high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing,
- Neither consider it fitting for a man to die for the people, lest the whole nation perish.
- Now he said not of himself, but being the high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation.
- And not for the nation only, but also to gather together in one body the children of God that were scattered abroad.
- And it came to pass on that day, that they sought to kill him.
- And Jesus was no longer walking among the Jews, but he departed thence to the land by the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim; and there he remained with his disciples.
- And the passover of the Jews was nigh, and many of that region went up to Jerusalem before the passover to purify themselves.
- And they sought after Jesus, and said one to another, while they were in the temple, What think ye? Will not you come to the party?
- Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had commanded that if anyone knew where he was, he would denounce him and arrest him.
