The strife of the LORD with his people
1 - Now I have heard the words of the LORD, Arise, contend with the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice.
2 - Hear, O mountains, the LORD'S request, and you, the strong foundations of the earth; for Jehovah hath an issue with his people, and with Israel he shall be brought into judgment.
3 - O my people; What have I done to you? And what have I been upset with? Testify against me.
4 For I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you from the house of bondage; and sent before thee Moses, and Aaron, and Miriam.
5 - My people, remember now what Balak the king of Moab consulted, and Balaam the son of Beor answered him, and what happened from Shittim to Gilgal, that you might know the righteousness of the LORD.
6 - How shall I come unto the LORD, and bow myself before the most high God? Shall I present myself before him with burnt offerings, with yearling calves?
7 - Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousand streams of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my womb for the sin of my soul?
8 - He hath declared thee, O man, that which is good; and what does the LORD require of thee, but to do righteousness, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with thy God?
9 - The voice of the LORD crieth unto the city, and he that is wise shall see thy name. I heard the rod, and who commanded it.
10 - Is there still in the house of the wicked treasures of wickedness, and a meager measure, which is detestable?
11 - Shall I be cleansed with false scales, and with a bag of deceitful weights?
12 - For their riches are full of violence, and their inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.
13 - And I will also weaken thee, and smite thee, and make thee desolate for thy sins.
14 - Thou shalt eat, but thou shalt not be satisfied, and thy humiliation shall be in the midst of thee; thou shalt remove thy goods, but thou shalt not deliver; and whatsoever thou shalt deliver, I will deliver it with the sword.
15 - Thou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; You shall tread the olive, but you shall not anoint yourself with oil; and you shall tread the wine, but you shall not drink wine.
16 - For the statutes of Omri, and all the work of the house of Ahab, are observed, and ye walk in their counsels; that I may make thee a desolation, and of its inhabitants a whistle; so shalt thou bring the reproach of my people upon you.

A contenda do SENHOR com o seu povo

1 - OUVI agora o que diz o SENHOR: Levanta-te, contende com os montes, e ouçam os outeiros a tua voz.

2 - Ouvi, montes, a demanda do SENHOR, e vós, fortes fundamentos da terra; porque o SENHOR tem uma demanda com o seu povo, e com Israel entrará em juízo.

3 - Ó povo meu; que te tenho feito? E com que te enfadei? Testifica contra mim.

4Pois te fiz subir da terra do Egito, e da casa da servidão te remi; e enviei adiante de ti a Moisés, Arão e Miriã.

5 - Povo meu, lembra-te agora do que consultou Balaque, rei de Moabe, e o que lhe respondeu Balaão, filho de Beor, e do que aconteceu desde Sitim até Gilgal, para que conheças as justiças do SENHOR.

6 - Com que me apresentarei ao SENHOR, e me inclinarei diante do Deus altíssimo? Apresentar-me-ei diante dele com holocaustos, com bezerros de um ano?

7 - Agradar-se-á o SENHOR de milhares de carneiros, ou de dez mil ribeiros de azeite? Darei o meu primogênito pela minha transgressão, o fruto do meu ventre pelo pecado da minha alma?

8 - Ele te declarou, ó homem, o que é bom; e que é o que o SENHOR pede de ti, senão que pratiques a justiça, e ames a benignidade, e andes humildemente com o teu Deus?

9 - A voz do SENHOR clama à cidade e o que é sábio verá o teu nome. Ouvi a vara, e quem a ordenou.

10 - Ainda há na casa do ímpio tesouros da impiedade, e medida escassa, que é detestável?

11 - Seria eu limpo com balanças falsas, e com uma bolsa de pesos enganosos?

12 - Porque os seus ricos estão cheios de violência, e os seus habitantes falam mentiras e a sua língua é enganosa na sua boca.

13 - Assim eu também te enfraquecerei, ferindo-te e assolando-te por causa dos teus pecados.

14 - Tu comerás, mas não te fartarás, e a tua humilhação estará no meio de ti; removerás os teus bens mas não livrarás; e aquilo que livrares, eu o entregarei à espada.

15 - Tu semearás, mas não segarás; pisarás a azeitona, mas não te ungirás com azeite; e pisarás o mosto, mas não beberás vinho.

16 - Porque se observam os estatutos de Onri, e toda a obra da casa de Acabe, e andais nos conselhos deles; para que eu te faça uma desolação, e dos seus habitantes um assobio; assim trareis sobre vós o opróbrio do meu povo.
