Jesus gives an example of humility by washing the disciples' feet

1 - ORA, before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come to pass from this world to the Father, as he had loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.

2 And when the supper was finished, and the devil had put into the heart of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon, to betray him,

3 - Jesus, knowing that the Father had put all things in his hands, and that he had gone out from God and went to God,

4 - He arose from the supper, and took off his garments, and took a towel, and girded himself. 5 - And he poured water into a basin, and began to wash the feet of the disciples, and to wipe them with the towel with which he was girded.

6 - And he came to Simon Peter, and said unto him, Lord, wilt thou wash mine feet unto me?

7 - And Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now, but thou shalt know it afterward.

8 - And Peter said unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. And Jesus said unto him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.

9 - And Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head.

10 - Jesus saith unto him, He that is washed needeth not to wash, but the feet: for the whole is clean. Now ye are clean, but not all.

11 - For he knew who would betray him; therefore he said: Not all of you are clean.

12 - And when he had washed their feet, and taken their clothes, and sat down again at the table, he said unto them, Understand what I have done unto you?

13 - You call me Master and Lord, and you say well, for I am.

14 - Now if I, Lord and Master, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet.

15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.

16 - Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his master, nor the greater messenger than he that sent him.

17 - If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

18 - I speak not of you all; I well know the ones I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled: He that eateth bread with me, hath lifted up his heel against me.

19 - From henceforth I say unto you, before it be done, that, when it be, ye may believe that I am. 20 - Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man receiveth what I send, he receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

21 - And it came to pass, when Jesus had said this, that he was troubled in the spirit, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, One of you shall betray me.

22 - And the disciples looked at one another, doubting whom he spake.

23 - Now one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclined in the bosom of Jesus.

24 - And Simon Peter made a sign unto him, that he might inquire who it was that he spake of.

25 - And he bowed himself upon the breast of Jesus, and said unto him, Lord, who is it?

26 - Jesus answered, It is he whom I shall give the wet dip. And when he had dipped the bit, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.

27 - And after the bit, Satan entered into it. And Jesus said, What you do, do it quickly.

28 - And none of them that sat at the table knew what purpose he had spoken unto him.

29 - For as Judas had the purse, some thought that Jesus had said unto him, Buy what is needful for the feast; or to give something to the poor.

30 - And when Judas had taken the bit, he departed quickly. And it was already night.

Jesus Shows What Brotherly Love Consists

31 - And when he had gone out, Jesus said, Now the Son of man is glorified, and God is glorified in him.

32 - If God is glorified in him, God will glorify him in himself, and will glorify him. 33Files, I am still with you for a little while. Ye shall seek me, but as I have said unto the Jews, I can not go where I am going; I tell you also now.

34 - A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

35 - By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye love one another.

36 - And Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, "Where I am going, you can not follow me now, but you will follow me.

37 - And Peter said unto him, Why can not I follow thee now? For you I will give my life.

38 - And Jesus said unto him, Shall thou lay down thy life for me? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, He shall not sing the cock until thou deny me three times.
