Threats against Israel and Judah
- The word of the LORD came to Micah the Moorish, in the days of Jotham, and Ahaz, and Hezekiah, the kings of Judah, which he saw upon Samaria and Jerusalem.
- Hear, all peoples, pay attention, O earth, and all that is in it; and let the Lord God be witness against you, the Lord, from his holy temple.
- For, behold, the LORD is about to go out of his place, and he will come down, and will walk upon the high places of the earth.
- And the mountains shall melt beneath it, and the valleys shall cleave like wax before the fire, as the waters that are cast into an abyss.
- All this because of the transgression of Jacob, and of the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? Is not it Samaria? And what are the high places of Judah? Is not it Jerusalem?
- Therefore I will make Samaria a heap of the stones of the field, a land for planting vines, and I will cause its stones to roll in the valley, and I will discover its foundations.
- And all his graven images shall be torn to pieces, and all his offerings shall be burned with fire, and I will make a desolation of all his idols; for he hath put them together for the hire of a harlot, and they shall return unto the hire of a harlot.
- Therefore I will lament, and groan, and I will walk naked and naked; I will make lamentation as of jackals, and mourning as of ostriches.
- For his wound is incurable, because he came to Judah; he went as far as the gate of my people to Jerusalem.
Do not proclaim it in Gath, nor weep much; Revolve in the dust, in the house of Afrah.
- O inhabitant of Saphir, pass in shameful nakedness; the inhabitant of Zaanan did not go out; the mourning of Beth-Ezel shall take away your position from you.
- For the inhabitant of Maroth suffers for good; for the evil came down from the LORD unto the gate of Jerusalem.
- Bind the little beasts to the chariot, O inhabitant of Lachish; this was the beginning of sin for the daughter of Zion, because the transgressions of Israel were found in thee.
- Therefore thou shalt give Moresheth the Greeon a present; the houses of Achzib shall become a deceit to the kings of Israel.
- I will bring again to thee, O inhabitant of Maresha, he that shall possess thee; the glory of Israel will come to Adullam.
- Make thee bald, and shear thee, for the children of thy delight; Extend thy baldness like the eagle, for they are taken captive from thee.
